Part of helping others is by donating to them.  On this page we give you ideas how you can raise money for other people.

You may need help from your parents with some of these.  But  believe us when we say that once you have reached your goal and given to the charity of your choice you will feel an amazing accomplishment.

Collect Funds Online

We at Kids Are Heroes have joined up with the folks at GiveForward.org to provide you with a way to collect donations online. Simply click on the web site button below. Once you are there click the "Join Group" button and follow all the instructions to create your own fund raising page. We will promote the group page from time to time through our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Just keep in mind that in order for it to be effective, you must send your own traffic to the link. The best way to do it is to send the link out to all your friends and family.

(Note that there is a charge for this. There is a credit card processing fee plus GiveForward charges a small fee for this service. No percentage of this fee goes to Kids Are Heroes. See the GiveForward.org web site for more details.)

Pie in the Face!!

See if any of your teachers would be willing to take a pie in the face. You might even get your home economics class to make the pies. Then sell raffle tickets to the entire school (i.e. $1.00 ea or 7 tickets for $5.) for a chance to get one of the pies. Each teacher that participates would select the "winner" that will throw the pie in his or her face.

Birthdays are for Giving

Do you really need all that stuff on your birthday? Your parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters give you stuff and then you get more stuff when you have a birthday party. Next time you have a birthday party ask your friends to donate to a special cause that is dear to your heart. It can be financial donations, food or clothing items for a shelter. You will remember giving far longer that you would have remembered the items you would have gotten.

Chores and More Chores

Ask your parents if they will pay you to do some extra chores around the house. This may seem like something that isn't too much fun at first, but when you give the person the gift that you are targeting you will quickly realize it is all worth the effort.

If you are old enough to cut the grass or shovel snow, ask your neighbors if they would pay you to do it for them. Tell them why you are doing it and they might give you a little extra!

Recycle Recycle Recycle!!

Ask your friends and neighbors to save their recyclable cans and bottles for you. Different states have different regulations, but look at item to see if it has a redeemable value. If there isn't a recycling program at school see if you can start one.

Although this web site is applicable to California only, it has some useful information. But you may just want to start by finding a recycling center near you through the yellow pages and ask them how much they pay and how they work.

The Olde Lemonade Stand

Hold a lemonade/soda stand. If you live on a busy street you can do it on your own front yard. If not ask a local business if you can do it in front of their store sometime. Check with your parents to see if there are local laws that reguulate what you can do. For example the Health Department in Maryland will require you to get a permit which is of little cost but can be important to prevent the stand from being shut down if they find out about it. Decorate your stand with colorful signs. Make sure it is very clear what you are raising the money for. If you are in a busy area, don't just sit and wait for people to come to you. Ask passers-by if they would like a cup and explain what your charity is. Some people might just donate without wanting the lemonade.
