Back in Jan 2010 at the age of 14 Allyson Ahlstrom started a project called Threads for Teens that benefits under-privileged teen girls ages 13-17. Her goal was to help less-fortunate girls build their self-esteem, confidence, & give them hope.
The project began with her writing over 400 letters & emails to clothing manufacturers asking for donations. So far she has received over $65K in donations, including a storefront.
Threads for Teens is just like a clothing boutique so the girls feel like they are actually out shopping. The big difference is that everything in the store is free.
The girls that come shopping are all through referrals from social workers. Thus far she has served over 100 girls. Most girls are from foster care & group homes.
All of the clothing received is new & stylish. Allyson invites the girls in for a 2-hour shopping spree. On average, each girl receives 2 tops, 2 bottoms, a dress, 1 pair of shoes, sunglasses, jewelry, a purse, & a variety of other small accessories. Before school began, she also gave out 65 backpacks stuffed full of school supplies.
On Sept 22nd Threads for Teens received 501(c)(3) status!
Allyson started & runs this charity all on her own. She has spent over 500 hours & continues to work numerous hours keeping it going.

Praise God for your compassion that is reaching Teens everywhere less fortunate than the average family due to low income or problems in the home that have effected the teen girls. Your reaching out is giving them hope to continue in their journey of life and make something out of themselves and not turn to the alternative which can be dropping out of school or drugs. I love the way you are helping out the needy. Continue to serve God in your giving. Matthew 10:8 says"For you have received, freely give." God has you on a special mission. :)
