Earlier this year Julia and Emma Mogus took it upon themselves to raise much needed literacy awareness for Aborginal Children and teens in Northern Ontario. They call themselves "Books With No Bounds".
They have HUGE hearts and together these girls have over a thousand combined hours of volunteer work... such as volunteering at many non-profit organizations, environemental awareness... Julia even went on a hunger strike this year for World Vision Canada and raised over 600.00 In addition, these girls have also volunteered as Junior Naturalists for their park ranger program.
Julia and Emma are working tirelessly to bring these books to the youth of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Commmunities in remote and sometimes 'fly in ' communities. They have given up all their birthday/Christmas money and any allowance they earned to buy LIKE NEW to NEW books for these children. It's taken them a year and they have purchased over 400 books, as of right now.
They are hoping our government sees the support and will reinstate the Summer Reading Book Drive our Lt. Governor Honorable David Onley had cancelled two years ago. My girls love to read and they know it has opened many doors for them. I know Emma and Julia want those Aboriginal children and teens to have the same opportunities they have and to foster that same love of reading they enjoy. The girls want to show their "fellow brothers and sisters to the north" as they refer... that they CARE!!!

Hi there,
I am a writer working on a project for a publishing company that produces the Glowing Hearts Series. Info provided below. We are featuring Julia and Emma in a section that promotes kids who make a difference. We need a high res photo to include in the charity profile. Would you be able to provide one to us that works for the charity? I love the one with them behind the books holding up the signs. It's low res online, do you have high res version? Also I need asap as our print deadline is next week, Jan. 15.
Thanks, Kimberly
Here's the book info:
Glowing Hearts 4: The Power of the Human Spirit
Inspired by the success of the first two Paralympic editions in the Glowing Hearts series, The Power of the Human Spirit will continue the tradition of inspiring and educational one-of-a-kind books for youth full of special messages from Paralympic athletes and active youth with physical disabilities as well.
Glowing Hearts books are about inspiration, goals and dreams, and the power of the human spirit. They are about expanding awareness of differences and diversity within our communities.

Hi, I just came across an article about these two wonderful sisters who are collecting books for the aboriginal children in the north. I wondering if they have delivered the books yet? I am an admin to the facebook page called Shooting Stars and we have gathered over 300 backpacks and school supplies for the children in Attawapiskat. The charity True North Aid is making a delivery up there, next month and I wonder if we can include your books? Anyways, would love to discuss more, my website is www.porcupineandfriends.com and thank you for caring. Post a Reply |
