My name is Tyler Kautzman and I am 12 years old. I am a 6th grader at Ingomar Middle School in Pittsburgh PA.
In 2007, for my 8th birthday, I collected items to send to the troops serving in Iraq. I ended up with over 400lbs. of stuff!
SSG Edward Greiner received one of my care packages and we became good friends. He even came to my school to speak to my class. We have been friends for the past 5 years. SSG Greiner was to be re-deployed to Afghanistan at the end of March, but was killed in a motorcycle accident on March 6, outside of Fort Bragg, NC. I am hosting the SSG Edward F Greiner 5k Memorial walk/run on Sunday July 29, 2012 for my 13th birthday to honor my friend. The event will be held at 9am at the boathouse in North Park. I am looking for sponsors/donations to help make my event successful.
All of the proceeds from my event are going to the Yellow Ribbon Girls, an organization that helped ship all of the stuff that I originally collected. To date they have shipped over 15,500 care packages to service men and women serving overseas. For more information you can check out www.eddie5kwalk.com, or you can like me on Facebook at the SSG Edward F Greiner Jr Memorial 5k walk/run. We are expecting approximately 800-1000 participants and a huge military presence. I have been told they are even going to try and do a flyby! Thank you for helping to make my event a special one for my Hero and his family.

I am guessing that you are having a lot of mixed feelings and thoughts about all this but you keep going. Ed seems to have left you a lot of his courage.
Tyler, I am pretty amazed at where this has all gone and I couldn't be more grateful that I was asked 5 years ago to give you my son's name so you could have a soldier contact. Please excuse my tears when I see you. I can only imagine how much your mom loves all her boys. It is cool that it keeps going even after you're gone and in another place looking after us who are still here, missing our boys. You have honor and integrity Tyler. Much will be expected of you. I believe you are up to it because you have an awesome Angel. (This shout-out has 2 replies.) |

Tyler, you are such a wonderful and caring young man. I am so proud of you and your patriotism. I know the Eddie would be very proud of you too. Our hearts were forever changed on May 6, 2012 when our family lost a very special man, the man my son, SSG Joel S. Watts, called "his brother." Thank you for being such a true inspiration and may God richly bless your life. Post a Reply |
