On June 25, 2012, after learning that millions of children live in modern-day slavery, 8-year-old Vivienne Harr decided to do something about it. She would “make a stand” at her lemonade stand, every day—rain or shine--until she raised $150,000 enough to free 500 child slaves through Not For Sale, a 501(c)3 organization.
On day #52, The New York Times broke the story. Then, ABC News, CBS News, MSNBC, The Huffington Post, The BBC World News and dozens of media from Hong Kong and Brazil to the Netherlands and Australia covered Vivienne's story. Seasoned journalists were so moved that they took pictures with Vivienne. They knew this was the beginning of something very special--and very rare. The moment became a movement. Tens of thousands of messages poured in from around the world from people who believed in something real and pure. The lemonade stand transcended the cause. Vivienne’s #MAKEASTAND! became a symbol of hope. Hope that, with a little “heart work,” each of us can do more, feel more, live more -- and change the world. After all, if an 8-year-old can do all this, what's possible for us?
"Compassion is not compassion without action.” ~Vivienne Harr, 8
Vivienne has shown that kids can be heroes, that there is no age limits on changing the world - if you just come from the heart and put in the "heart work!"

Here in New Zealand the Jeff Probst show you were on just aired today. I loved watching what a natural, nice person you are. It's cool you can do such a great thing and remain a nice, normal person. I would like to help your cause and learn more about how you are doing. How could I do that? Post a Reply |

Hello, I'm a teacher at Crossroads Elementary School in Santa Monica, California. Our 2nd grade class is doing a project on kids who are making a difference and would like to know if you (the kid hero or parent of the kid hero) would be willing to participate by simply responding to questions that our students have about you. These questions would be sent to you from my email address. The questions (less than 5) will not take long to answer. If you are open to that please email me at jwatt@xrds.org so that we have an email address that will be checked regularly. Our project will begin the week of Feb 4th, 2013 and we'd like all of our students to get a response by Feb 7th, 2013. If you are willing to help us with this quick turnaround time, our students will be thrilled!
Since our students are randomly drawing names from those who indicate that they are willing to participate, we may or may not contact you for this project but will keep your information for future projects.
Thank you for considering this!

Hi- my name is Fion. I read your article. It was amazing! You had made a lemonade stand and selling lemonade in all sorts of weather until you had raised $150,000, which is going to be able to free 500 child slaves. I thought that was very nice of you to raise money to free child slaves.
I had heard of people have lemonade stand, but when it’s rainy, they usually go back to their house, and not sell it anymore. Also, they wouldn’t donate it. They would just earn money for themselves.
I wouldn’t believe that donating money would make such a big deal. You must be very confident in yourself to raise $150,000. My question for you is how long did it take you to raise that much money? I am really looking forward to see how long it took to raise that much.
You also remind me of when my parents were working very hard, and trying to earn enough money for a trip to my favourite place. Well, this seems like this is the end now. Bye!

Hi! My name is Jasmine.Y,
I am going to talk about what you did. I really like what you did, and why you did it. I like how you wanted to put up a lemonade stand for slavery. I liked what you did because, lots of kids feel bad that they don’t have a family, or friends. Kids usually don’t like slavery, but you just made all the kids feel better. This reminds me of those days back then when they had slavery, and they made kids and parents work all the time. A person made slavery end. Sometimes, they put people in jail for slavery. I like how you said that you would set up the lemonade stand in rain or shine. You have a lot of courage and a lot of fairness in you, and what you did it for. It’s also good that you always don’t give up. If you were in our school, I would give you a bracelet, or a award, for never giving up. Thank you for doing that, you should be proud of yourself too. You REALLY ARE A HERO! Bye for now! From,
Jasmine.Y
