Animal Rescue Efforts in Gulf Supply Delivery

Website:

One More Generation

After months of hard work, the founders of One More Generation (OMG) are finally ready to head down to New Orleans to deliver all the supplies they collected to help with the Animal rescue efforts in the Gulf.

We have been through a lot since starting this program (said Olivia) and now we finally get to deliver the supplies. We were supposed to deliver the supplies to several agencies in the area but now that the Command Center has taken over the animal rescue operations, we have been told they no longer need our supplies or our help.

We were not going to give up that easy said Olivia's brother Carter (age-9). We promptly got on the phone and after a few days of calling around, we managed to gain approval to deliver the supplies to the kind folks at the New Orleans Zoo. The Zoo has been taking in oiled seabirds and other animals since all this started and they were very pleased that we choose their organization as the recipient of the supplies.

We are driving to New Orleans next Monday Aug 30th (which happens to be Olivia's 8th birthday ;-) and we are being accompanied by a German film Crew (ZDF / Logo TV which is the equivalent of our Nickelodeon TV) who is doing a story on how the oil spill has effected kids and how it has moved them to action. The film crew will be covering our tour of the devastated area and the hand-off of the supplies which is scheduled for next week on Thursday.

We will be sure and post an update after we get back from the region. Thanks to everyone for all the support.

2nd Annual ShootOut for Ulcerative Colitis & Crohn's Disease

Website:

ShootOut for IBD

Last year, when I turned 9, I was diagnosed with severe Ulcerative Colitis, a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) – which includes Crohn’s Disease. Though I continue my daily fight with IBD and attempt to manage this disease with various medications, I am charging forward to increase awareness and help those with the same challenge. Last year, I developed and hosted a Free Throw Tournament & Silent Auction to help “Shoot Out” IBD.

Last year’s inaugural event raised over $35,000.00 while drawing over 350 attendees and showcased over 140 amazing auction items! We are excited to announce that our 2nd Annual ShootOut For IBD is scheduled for Sunday September 12th and we hope that your generosity will help us better last year’s totals! All money raised from this event will directly support the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and John’s Hopkins Children’s Center’s (JHCC) research towards finding a cure and improving the quality of life for children and adults who are affected by these diseases.

What: 2nd Annual Free Throw ShootOut & Silent Auction Why: To raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease - while having a great time! Where: Meadowbrook Athletic Complex 5001 Meadowbrook Lane Ellicott City, MD 21043 When: Sunday, September 12, 2010 – 12:00PM to 2:30PM, event check-in 11:30PM Expected Attendance: estimated at 700-1000 including participants and auction bidders

Backpack Drive

Osjah's Facebook Group

My name is Osjah, I'm in the 5th grade and I'm 10 years old. My main project this year is adopting Timuquan Elementary School. It's a low income school of roughly 600 students where 78% of the kids are on free lunch. I'm collecting backpacks and school supplies to hopefully cover all 600 students that I am delivering the day that the teachers return to school on August 16th. We're even going to have a back to school breakfast for the teachers that day thanks to UNF STarbucks! I can't do this alone, so please help in any way you can. I'm accepting donations of backpacks, school supplies, money to purchase these items etc... I'll update about each phase as we go through the school year. This is only phase one since I am adopting the school for the whole year! This is my biggest project ever and I am so excited about it. You can find me on my Facebook page for Osjah's Wish or email me at OsjahsWish@aol.com
